Farewell to the Colombian Tall Ship A.R.C Gloria from West India Docks – 6th September 2015

The visit of  the Colombian Tall Ship A.R.C Gloria to West India Docks has created a great deal of excitement especially from London’s Colombian community. The final appearance of the ship was due to be at Tower Bridge as part of the Columbia Day celebrations.

I rarely see ships go out of dock but on this occasion it coincided with the arrival of a Polish tall ship.

There were still a number of Colombian nationals around West India Dock as the A.R.C Gloria majestically made its way though the Blue Bridge and out into the Thames.

On the deck were the members of the crew in different coloured tops who were getting ready to climb up the rigging for the ship’s famous party piece. Over sixty crew will balance on the sails as it made its way down the Thames and through Tower Bridge.

As the ship made its way down to the bottom of the Isle of Dogs, the sight of the crew climbing up the rigging and standing on the sails was an exciting prequel to the big event at the Tower.
